Depression Medication and Health Insurance - Getting Prescription Coverage

Depression Medication and Health Insurance – Getting Prescription Coverage

Zoloft is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) specifically designed to treat depression, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD. This medication has proven to be very effective when it is taken accordingly, but can often cause problems for some people. It’s not the side effects or drug interactions that most people worry about, but the lack of health insurance coverage for this medication and others like it. Many states have created laws to require private insurance coverage for mental health treatment, but they have not been effective at convincing insurance companies that covering anti-psychotic medications is a good idea.

Too many insurance companies see this as a risk that they cannot afford, and will deny prescription coverage to people taking Zoloft and other prescriptions for mental health disorders. What is even worse is that some companies will increase health insurance rates or drop customers if they present with serious mental health disorders because it puts them at a risk level that insurance companies aren’t able to handle. If you are already taking anti-depressants, you need to make sure that you find an insurance company that will accept you.

The medical history

You certainly can’t lie about your medical history. That’s insurance fraud. However, you need to make sure that you are getting the healthcare coverage that you need without compromising your health because an insurance company doesn’t like antidepressants. Group health insurance plans that you get through an employer seem to be much more accepting of mental health issues …

Medical Insurance Reform Will Address High Costs For Folks With Diabetes

Two Lesser Known Facts About MRI Scans

Looking for info on why MRI scans are so important? Want to know how claustrophobic people handle an MRI scan? The diagnostic versatility of the MRI is widely underappreciated. Not only that, but the various types of scan aren’t well known either. The open MRI, for example, has opened up testing to multiple demographics.

Two Lesser Known Facts About MRI Scans

1. They don’t always involve stuffing you in a tube

You no longer necessarily have to live your claustrophobic nightmare when you need an MRI scan. Instead of the traditional tube scanner, you can get what is called an open MRI scan. If you’re the type of person or the parent of a child who cannot handle tight spaces without panicking or squirming, you can get an MRI without needing some sort of sedation. This opens up even the possibility of having an MRI for people who are too large to fit in the standard tiny tube. There are even ones where you can stand upright, though this third category does have the lowest detail.

2. They have a wide variety of applications

Your basic X-ray is not going to reveal anything but problems with your bones, and even then, it can miss something. MRI scans are for more than getting clearer detail on your bones. They can pick up fine details and inconsistencies in all of your soft tissues. This includes everything from your spinal cord to your internal organs, right down to your blood vessels. They can diagnose cancer, strokes, brain injuries, and …

Healthy Weight Loss For Moms – More Reasons To Eat Broccoli

Healthy Weight Loss For Moms - More Reasons To Eat Broccoli

I do not like broccoli, I have never liked broccoli and I do not believe that I ever will actually like broccoli. That does not stop me eating it; first my mother and now my wife have made sure that broccoli is included in my diet, at least occasionally. I have now learned some facts to back up why moms through the ages have insisted on our ‘eating up the greens’, especially broccoli.

I understand that there are many reasons why we should eat broccoli, along with other ‘cruciferous’ vegetables such as cabbage, kale, cauliflower and brussel sprouts. Their part in healthy balanced weight loss diets has been accepted for many years. I have now found a very scientifically convincing argument, to persuade me to make the effort and eat more of some of these foods.

It would appear that among the many undesirable substances which are present in our environment, there is a group of chemicals which find their way into our food chain. They are known as xenoestrogens and they have been found to alter our hormone balances.

One of the effects of these changes, is to encourage your system to store fat. This fat is almost always stored where you would not want it to be, such as in the belly area. So how can broccoli help?

Well the cruciferous vegetables contain certain substances, called phytonutrients, which can fight against these xenoestrogens.

I see this as another great example of science backing up what mom …
