Are you looking for a whey (pardon the pun) to spike your body’s protein levels, drop a great deal of fat and water, and embark upon a sort of “cleansing phase”? If so, whey fasting might just be right for you! It involves the consumption of a great deal of water and whey, along with some fast burning carbohydrate sources like fruit and vegetables. Meat and starchy carbs are off the menu.
You’ll need to schedule this fasting for a time where you have a little bit of freedom. Your body might react in an odd way to the sudden influx of whey protein, and it might not be a positive thing until your digestive track adjusts to it. Fasting is a common practice in many cultures for religious purposes. It allows the person to remove toxins from the body, as well as clear the intestines of built up waste. Many people also experience a spiritual awakening as their bodies face this change.
Each meal should consist of two scoops of whey protein, along with a good, clean carbohydrate source from the fruit or vegetable family. Eat another meal every hour if you’d like. Whenever you’re hungry, go for it again. You’re essentially ‘grazing’, or eating small amounts of protein all day along with a carb source for fiber and energy. Whey protein is a wonderful thing. It’s healthy and contains a wealth of vitamins and minerals, and is an excellent source of complete proteins. Most bodybuilders, strength trainers, and athletes around the world use it regularly to fuel their workouts and recovery.
Be prepared for hunger pangs. Take additional supplements to assist with any shortcomings from your current consumptions. A good multi-vitamin, vitamin B,C,E, and fish oil capsules should be adequate. You may need to cut back on weight training or cardio time during this whey fast. Your energy levels will most likely be down, as you will be used to consuming slow burning carbohydrate and protein sources. Suddenly you’ll be relegated to extremely lean sources (whey and fruit and vegetables) which digest very quickly. You’ll likely feel healthier than you have in your entire life, but you may not feel your strongest.
After the whey fast, be very slow in your return to solid foods. Your stomach will shrink during this absence of food. If your first meal back is a huge one, you will have a very rough night as your shrunken stomach and intestines. Make it a gradual, three-day return to a normal diet. And before you return to ‘normal’, decide what normal you believe it best for you. Did you feel like a million bucks when on this whey fast? Was it due to the lack of pastas and meats? Or was the lack of bread something you have never experienced, but certainly love now that you’ve endured it? Spend some time thinking about which aspects of the whey fasting diet you’d like to employ in your regular diet to help you look … Read More
